EKAL SUCCESS STORY
Rukmani Prajapati,a young rural entrepreneur is the alumni of Birsa Sewa Sansthan, Karanjo, an integrated project of Gramotthan of EKAL ABHIYAN.
“I will always be thankful to Ekal Abhiyan which has taught me to be self-sufficient. It has got me respect and confidence” says Rukmani. Like me there are many poor and helpless people who have got a livelihood due to Ekal Abhiyan.
We have many sisters who have gratitude and love for Ekal. EKAL ABHIYAN has become a pillar of strength for many. Shilpa Mishra who did her internship from EKAL ABHIYAN’S Birsa seva sanstan has joined as a trainer. She said that this Kendra is running from last 5 years and till now about 150 ladies have taken internship from this institution and have become self-sufficient and living happily. Other thantailoring, making pappad is also turning to be main source of income for these ladies.
RukmaniPrajapati at a very young age has made a name for herself. With her skills she not only created a name for herself but also have become more confident and self-believing.She has set an example how ladies from rural villages can live a happy life without going to city.
In 2011 she got internship in cutting and stitching in EKAL ABHIYAN’S Bisra Seva Sanstan – Karanjo, West Singh Bhum, Jaharkhand. She started stitching frock, salvar suits, blouse, petticoat, baby frock etc in different designs which the villagers appreciated.
She proudly says “Now we need not to leave our village and family and go to city in search of livelihood. This 22 years old Young lady from Karaikela village is doing her graduation in J.N.L. College, Chakradharpur.
She earns approximately 2000/- to 2500/- every month by stitching cloths,with which she pays her college fee and helps her house with the balance.
Her voicegot chocked and eyes got filled with tears when she narrated her bitter past. When she was a small child her father died, she was left alone with her mother and sister to survive by doing petty jobs. Compelled by all these problems she got motivatedto go to EKAL ABHIYAN’S Bisra Seva Sansthan (Gramotthan Sansadhan Kendra) to learn tailoring.After that she never looked back. All her dreams are fulfilled.She joined school,passed with good marks and joined college.Now she is doing her BA first year.
